HIGHLIGHTS

** BOYS ROC Indiv.: The touted battle between four returning Foot Locker Finalists from the South was everything advertised and more, as US#9 Chantilly VA sr Sean McGorty outkicked US#2 Jacob Thomson, 14:43.6 to 14:43.9. Both destroyed the course record of 14:57.6 set by Daniel Moore FL last year. The other two Foot Locker Finalists in the race finished next, as Peachtree Ridge GA sr Josh Brickell also edged under the old mark at 14:57.5 and Skyline VA sr Thomas Madden ran 14:59.2.

** BOYS ROC Teams: US#1 (Marc Bloom’s Super 25) Christian Brothers Academy ran up to their ranking in their first trip to Great American, averaging a tremendous 15:24 in claiming the crown among the 31 teams with 60 points. They were led in 6th and 7th by seniors Jack Boyle (15:15.0) and Billy Bragg (15:17.6). US#10 St. Xavier KY was a strong 2nd with 148 points and defending champ and US#5 Cardinal O’Hara PA was 3rd with 161. US#6 Bishop Hendricken was 10th. The next four ranked teams in the SE region after St. Xavier KY – Chantilly VA, Broughton NC, Blacksburg VA, and Brentwood TN – finished 4-6-7-5.

** GIRLS ROC Indiv.: St. Mary’s WV sr Maggie Drazba claimed the title in 17:27.9, winning a close race over Eureka MO soph Hannah Long (17:30.0) and Saratoga Springs NY sr Taylor Driscoll (17:31.9). Drazba was 13th at Foot Locker South last fall, but then made Team USA from the World Junior Trials this past February. The 2011 WV state champ also had 1,600 and 3,200 PRs of 4:51 and 10:27 last spring. Long also narrowly missed San Diego last fall with her 11th at FL Midwest. Driscoll has improved sharply this fall after taking 22nd at NXN Finals last fall.

** GIRLS ROC Teams: The top three squads from last year switched their order, with US#12 Assumption KY winning with 88 points in the 27-team field, followed by 3-time defending champ and US#3 Saratoga Springs (136) and #10 Tatnall (142). Last year, Tatnall and Assumption trailed the New York power. Assumption’s top two – Bailey Davis and Katherine Receveur – finished 5-7 and the Kentucky squad had the depth to back them up.
